Aquafacts delivers tool to support salmon farm invoicing

“We are tracking nearly 2,000 wellboats, workboats, live fish carriers, harvest vessels and feed carriers in Norway, Iceland, the UK, Chile, Canada and the Faroe Islands via satellite AIS and terrestrial antennas. But we never thought that historical track would be relevant for the aquaculture industry,” Aquafacts Co-founder Hanus Samró said.

Samró explained that Historical track was initially developed for fisheries platform Fishfacts.com, to help skippers and shipowners track vessels’ activities back in time, while the salmon industry focuses on the future – who will harvest next week, and what will the volumes and prices will be.

“That’s why I was so surprised when a client asked for assistance with an invoice from a vessel company. According to him, they were charged for an extra workday, but he couldn’t verify it because the invoice was sent at the end of summer, while the work had taken place at the beginning of the summer,” he said.

“If there’s a human error in the invoice, and the salmon company is unwilling to pay, both parties suffer. We want to make this process more transparent.”

Vessel companies can use historical track for documentation purposes, while salmon companies can use the tool to verify the vessel’s arrival, departure, and hours spent at specific locations.

Historical track grants user access to historical AIS data for all the vessels on the platform, dating back to 1 January 2022, and in some cases, as far back as 1 January 2021.

In addition to viewing vessel historical tracks, users can also track vessel locations in relation to salmon sites.
