María Dís Ólafsdóttir has created a unique high value fish leather project

One of the most creative avenues in high-value marine side streams is currently being travelled by the Nanna Lín company, and its CEO and founder María Dís Ólafsdóttir will take the opportunity to showcase its work at the 100% Fish for Profit Conference next month.
Born and raised on a sheep farm in Northeast Iceland, María not only oversees the Nanna Lín operation – which began as an innovation startup in 2022 developing a new type of leather textile and related products derived from salmon skin – but is also pursuing a PhD in biotechnology.
She will contribute to the session at the end of the conference’s opening day, Research, Development and Novel Markets for Marine Bioproducts.
Introduced to the untapped potential of fish skin through various research projects, and now working together with the growing Nanna Lín team, she is helping bridge the worlds of fish and fashion through sustainability, innovation, and craftsmanship.
The Nanna Lín product is a brand-new type of fish leather, made from land-based Icelandic salmon skin, which is completely reshaped into big sheets before it is tanned.
