Icelandic company Slippurinn Akureyri has finalised an agreement with Norwegian fishing company Nergård Havfiske to design, produce and install a processing deck for its new freezer trawler.

Vard will be building the ship and Slippurinn will supervise the processing deck with a turnkey solution, along with sub-contractors including Intech, Marel, Baader and Holmek.
"The contract with Nergård Havfiske is the largest single contract that Slippurinn has made in relation to a vessel’s fish processing deck and this is a great recognition for us in every way. In recent years we have been expanding on the market for fishing vessels and land-based processing equipment, and we are very pleased that
Nergård has chosen us for this project,” said Slippurinn CEO Eiríkur S. Jóhannsson.
The processing deck for the new 80 metre LOA, 17 metre breadth factory trawler will be able to process both fish and shrimp. The trawler is expected to be ready to start fishing in February 2020.
Over the past five years, Slippurinn has delivered six processing decks for freezer trawlers, most of which have been for companies connected to Samherji, building on the depth of knowledge of fishing and processing within the Samherji group.
These include processing decks for freezer trawlers Berlin NC-105 and Cuxhaven NC-100, owned by Deutsche Fischfang Union, and Slippurinn has also produced and managed production decks for fresh fish trawlers, including last year for Samherji’s fresher trawler Björg EA-7.
"The projects we have been working on in recent years have been very successful,” Eiríkur Jóhannsson said.
‘We have developed our equipment and put more emphasis than before on offering complete solutions to our customers. This agreement with Nergård and Vard is therefore a good testimony to the positive developments that have taken place here and a quality stamp for Slippurinn and our great staff.”
