Activated solutions in fish processing
Anox Industries, manufacturer of electrochemically activated disinfectant solutions ATHOX™ and CATHOX™, says that its products can now be used in the fish processing industry.
The solutions kill bacteria, viruses and fungi and are also non-toxic and harmless to foodstuffs and people.
The process of electrochemically activated water occurs when water solutions flow past positive and negatively charged plates and was developed by the IRC network, University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) and Anox. This generates chemically reactive agents that make the solutions capable of killing bacteria, viruses and fungal spores. The portion of solution flowing past the cathode is separated by a diaphragm from the portion flowing past the anode. This yields two solutions, a CATHOX and NEUTHOX, with somewhat different properties. The NEUTHOX is the most useful biocidal material while the CATHOX can be used as a surface washing liquid.
After a few days the solutions revert back to their normal state, so there is no longterm waste or residue. The key advantages offered by this technology are that it does not involve conventional disinfecting chemicals, there are no hazardous by-products, no dangers in handling the solutions and the process has the potential to be cost-effective and energy efficient.
The solutions can be used for the following applications:
• Disinfecting and washing surfaces and walls
• Disinfecting equipment and closed systems
• Disinfecting water
• Disinfecting air in premises and ventilation shafts
• Disinfecting waste water
• Disinfecting vehicles
• Stock (brushes, washing cloths, etc)
