Vietnamese fish production already exceeding 7 million tonnes
Vietnam’s total aquatic production in the third-quarter of 2025 reached over 2.7 million tonnes, up 3.3% year-on-year. Cumulatively, in the first nine months of 2025, the country’s total aquatic production exceeded 7.2 million tonnes, an increase of 3.2% compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the country’s General Statistics Office.
Aquaculture output in Q3 2025 exceeded 1.7 million tonnes, up 5.5% year-on-year. For the first nine months of the year, it was estimated at about 4.3 million tonnes, up 5.1%, comprising fish (nearly 2.8 million tonnes, up 4.8%), shrimp (998,800 tonnes, up 6.3%) and other aquatic species (494,500 tonnes, up 4.6%).
The Q3 pangasius harvest amounted to 469,300 tonnes – up 4.8% year-on-year, with the total output in the first nine months exceeding 1.3 million tonnes – up 4.6%. According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), the increase was driven by higher processing and export demand for value-added pangasius products, as well as rising selling prices in the quarter, ensuring profitability for farmers.
Vietnam’s whiteleg shrimp production in Q3 reached 352,800 tonnes – up 6.9% year-on-year, while black tiger shrimp output was 87,200 tonnes – up 3.5%. Cumulatively, in the first nine months of 2025, whiteleg shrimp production totaled 719,700 tonnes (+7.1%) and black tiger shrimp 212,300 tonnes (+3.5%).
The shrimp output increased thanks to industrial and super-intensive farming models and the effective application of high technology, VASEP said
Meanwhile, national capture fisheries output in the third-quarter amounted totalled over 1 million tonnes, down 0.3% year-on-year. But for the first nine months of 2025, total capture production reached nearly 3 million tonnes – up 0.5% compared to the same period last year.
