Marine Harvest has experienced a severe algae bloom in its Chilean operations in Region X.
The company reports that 2.7 million out of 2.9 million fish have now suffered mortality due to the algal bloom, and the remaining 0.2 million fish are most likely be lost too.
Three sea water sites are affected; Punta Redonda, Huar Sur and Huar Norte. The company stocked 2.9 million fish at these sites and the average live weight ranges from 1.5kg to 2.5kg.
The company’s biomass is insured.
