The Norwegian ice machine and ice plant manufacturer Finsam has recently delivered a new ice plant to Riverside Salmon in Alness, Scotland.

The system can provide ice slurry as well as conventional ice from the same unit. The ice slurry can be used for the salmon processing plant and transportation of fish in tubs and supply plate ice for packing and transportation in fish boxes.

The plant has a production capacity of 20 tonnes per day and a storage capacity of 18 tonnes of ice in dry condition.

The concept is based on Finsam´s well proven containerised ice plants with an industrial plate ice machine.

The ice storage is equipped with stainless steel ice rake and screw conveyors that can feed ice to three dosing boxes in the processing plant. The dosing boxes are automatically recharged as ice is filled in the fish boxes.

The production of ice slurry to the preset concentration is automatic and ice is delivered to the 4 cu.m. ice slurry tank on demand. The ice slurry is pumped from the storage tank to delivery points for fish tubs and trucks.

There are several advantages of combining conventional ice production with a slurry solution. One is that ice can be stored for a long time with very little loss and consumption of energy. Large quantities of ice slurry can be delivered instantly when needed. The ice is produced from fresh water and the salinity and temperature of the slurry can be controlled according to the requirements.

A containerised ice plant is prefabricated at the Finsam factory in Norway and can be put in operation after a very short erection time at site. If required the plant can easily be dismantled and moved to another location.

The range of ice machines being offered by Finsam are unique by their simplicity in operation and sophisticated application of the latest development in refrigeration control technology.

With ice production capacity ranging from 2 to 35 tonnes per day there is a Finsam ice machine to suite the needs of any customer. Higher capacities are achieved by having several machines built together as modules. In this way the total capacity of ice plants has been increased to more than 300 tonnes per day.

Finsam is also manufacturing a full range of Flo Ice machines for the fishing industry; both for land based operations and on board applications. This range of products also includes storage and ice distribution systems.
