Two long-serving team members have been promoted to the board of Grimsby Fish Dock Enterprises (GFDE).
Danny Payne and Ben Walker bring more than 25 years of combined experience to their new roles as operations director and finance director respectively. Their appointments reflect GFDE’s commitment to internal progression and strengthening leadership from within.

“It is a privilege to be asked to join the board of directors and to have a seat and voice at the table,” said Payne, who started working on the docks 17 years ago alongside his father.
“I’m a Grimsby lad, my dad and grandad were fishermen, so this is quite an honour. We know we can’t stand still – we have to keep moving forward.”
Walker, who joined GFDE in 2013 and became finance manager in 2016, acknowledged the company’s rapid growth. “We’ve taken on quite a lot, with three additional trading companies starting,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to ensuring we remain a profitable operation, where we can invest and grow the business further. I see the port as the biggest opportunity.”
Chief executive Martyn Boyers continues to lead the company, which operates the fish market, slipway, logistics and supports offshore wind and training activities. The board is chaired by maritime lawyer Andrew Oliver, who praised the appointments.
“To be able to appoint two directors of the calibre of Ben and Danny is a real show of strength,” Oliver said. “It’s a sign of a successful company when you can promote from within. They have great knowledge and clear talent.”
