Belesta is a division of Belzona Polymerics Limited set up specifically to market an advanced range of friction reducing lubrication products that are now widely used throughout the fishing industry.
Belesta’s range of lubricant additives, involving highly polarised polymeric fluids, has received wide acclaim within the industry for its ability to reduce friction, noise and wear while greatly decreasing fuel consumption.
The Belesta range of products is used by many skippers as the lubricant additive of choice for engines, gearboxes, compressors, turbines and hydraulic systems. The unique synbionic technology on which these products are based enhances the performance of existing lubricants.
Since its introduction in 2003, a large number of fishing boat owners have been using Belesta LC2 in their engine lubricant system and have seen fuel savings of up to 9%. With the ever increasing cost of marine diesel, any reduction in fuel usage is a clear benefit, and added to this, the time and money saved by extending the drain interval of the oil is a further factor in opting to use Belesta. In addition, temperature and noise reduction are added benefits.
Billy Hughson, Chief Engineer of the "Charisma", has been using Belesta products for nearly six years, initially treating the shore set shortly followed by the auxiliary Caterpillar secondary engines, then months later by the Mack T12 main engine. "Before LC2 treatment, fuel consumption was over 100 ton for a similar German run, however, after the addition of LC2, this was reduced to 85 ton. Since using Belesta LC2 in the hydraulic system, there have been highly positive results I found that noise levels had dropped from 97.2dB within an hour of blending to 94.8dB, any high pitched noise had completely abated and there was a 6 to 8 degrees temperature reduction. Belesta products have also greatly helped prevent cavitation in the hydraulic pumps when ‘shooting the net’."
Another part of the product range is Belesta PL. This is ideal for lubricating banana bars as its attraction to the metal surface ensures that it remains where it is needed. In addition, rusted components can be freed and sea cocks kept operational.
Belesta XPG can be used to extend greasing intervals on guide-on-gear, bearings, crane booms, pins, towing blocks and many other moving parts by up to seven times due to its unique attractive properties.
