On 1 December, more than 150 chefs and restaurants in cities across the United States will participate in the first ‘America’s Night Out for Gulf Seafood’ to promote the safety of Gulf seafood in light of the BP oil spill earlier in the year.

All participating restaurants will be serving a special dish that includes either fish, oysters, shrimp or crabs from the Gulf of Mexico, which supplies nearly half of all the country's seafood.

The event is intended to show that seafood from the Gulf of Mexico is safe to eat and is the most scrutinised and tested seafood in the entire world.

The special night out is also meant to honour the thousands of Americans and their families in the Gulf seafood industry who are now back to work, fishing the Gulf waters.
