A UK tuna importer and supplier is up for sale for £2m after its owner decided to retire after 50 years in the business.
H&T Walker, which is headquartered in Cornwall, was founded in 1876 and its established Goddess brand is highly respected by UK and Irish food manufacturers who supply UK Blue Chip Companies producing sandwiches, fillings and ready made meals.
Erik Thorbek, owner, H&T Walker, told World Fishing & Aquaculture: “Not one year has gone by in 50 years where we haven’t made a profit. The Goddess brand is very strong and is respected in the industry.”
Not only will the buyer be investing in a strong brand, the company also has a wide customer base. Ten years ago the company downsized from supplying around 60 products to specialise purely in tuna.
Most customers buy pouch packs produced in 3kg or 7kg weights and H&T Walker can procure Tuna caught with pole and line, purse seiner with or without fish aggregating devices (FAD).
The company prides itself on its commitment to sustainability – all of its tuna is dolphin friendly and fully BRC certified. And it can trace each pouch or can back to the fishing vessel and even the area in which it was caught.
London broker Turner and Butler is handling the sale.
