Wherever flake ice is used in the production or refrigeration of foodstuffs, hygiene should have a high priority. Today no producer or processor of fresh food items can afford the risk of contamination from any source, including ice.

With MAJA, hygienic ice begins at the water supply. To ensure ice production is free of microbial contaminants the external UV-Disinfection System option can be integrated into the water supply inlet of any MAJA Flake Ice Machines.

Another strong point, which is standard for MAJA, is hygienic machine construction. Examples of this type of construction include a hinged cover for easy access to all machine parts for maintenance and cleaning and no couplings or narrow edges that can become critical areas for the collection of contaminants.

But neither hygienic machine construction, nor excellent drinking water quality are enough if the machine is not cleaned regularly. Each type of ice machine, no matter whether it works with a plate, a spiral or a horizontal evaporator, must be cleaned, decalcified and disinfected at regular intervals. This is a normal and necessary process because drinking water contains microscopic organic and mineral impurities. Over time these impurities deposit on machine parts that come into contact with the water.

For this reason, all MAJA Flake Ice Machines can be equipped with the optional and patented, Evaporator Cleaning System. With the push of a button all parts of the evaporator that contact water are easily, automatically and reliably cleaned. The cleaning and rinsing process takes about 50 minutes. It cleans efficiently, decalcifies and thanks to its disinfecting effect, even germs and bacteria are reduced to the required inoffensive minimum.

The big advantage is that the machine is completely cleaned with only the push of a button. No labour or removal of parts is required, and the time required to manually clean the ice machine is no longer necessary.
