Florida based seafood company, Trans Global Products Inc, has become the newest member of the National Fisheries Institute’s (NFI) Crab Council.

Founded in 1982, Trans Global has been importing and exporting seafood products to Taiwan and Japan. The company specialises in pasteurised crabmeat and is known for its Trans-Global and Captain’s Delight brands.
Irene Chen, Trans Global Products, said: “Concentrating on sustainability is more important now than ever. We recognise the increasing need to proactively solve the challenges facing the Blue Swimming Crab fisheries in Southeast Asia. We believe the work that the NFI Crab Council is doing by spearheading public/private partnerships and funding its own work addresses these issues directly.”
The NFI Crab Council, which was set up in 2009, funds fisheries improvement efforts in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam and has begun work in India and Sri Lanka.
As a member of the Council, Trans Global will be charged a quarterly assessment based on the amount of Blue Swimming Crab it imports which will then be used to fund sustainability projects.
