The comming assension of ten new countries to the European Union (EU) will create new opportunities for the Spanish fishing industry.
In the fresh, frozen and canned products sector, Spain has alredy increased sales to Eastern European countries, and producers are confident that annulment of imports tariffs will increase exports to countries that ares soon to form part of the EU as of 1 May this year.
Since 2001, Galicia, the main provider of the Spanish fleet products, increased its total exports to those ten countries by 180 per cent, from EUR 111.67 million to EUR 312.73 million, reports the Faro de Vigo.
