This partnership is the latest effort under Seafish’s Seafood for Life initiative, which highlights the positive stories surrounding fish and shellfish.
Thornback ray, an important fishery in the north-west, is rich in protein, omega-3 fatty acids and essential vitamins while being low in fat, sugar and salt. However, its consumption has declined over the years.
“This campaign highlights the health benefits of the thornback ray, the importance of the species to the north-west and celebrates the seafood industry in that part of the UK,” said Aoife Martin, operations director at Seafish.
The campaign is supported by renowned chef CJ Jackson, who showcases her culinary skills in a short ‘catch to plate’ film. The video follows the journey of thornback ray from the fishing boat to the kitchen, demonstrating how to prepare and cook the fish into a nutritious, delicious dish.
“The thornback ray is a truly versatile fish that lends itself beautifully to a range of dishes,” said CJ Jackson.
“It’s an ideal choice for home cooks looking to experiment with something new and nutritious.”
