Total seafood production in Vietnam in the first four months of this year is estimated at 2.6 million tonnes, representing an increase of 2.6% over the same period of 2021, according to the latest figures compiled by the Centre for Informatics and Statistics at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

Of the total, capture fisheries accounted for more than 1.23 million tonnes, down 1%, despite upturns in the capture of yellowfin and bigeye in key tuna fishing provinces.

Meanwhile, aquaculture production for the January through April 2022 period was estimated at almost 1.37 million tonnes, up 5.3% year-on-year.

Within the aquaculture sector, pangasius production amounted to 468,000 tonnes, up 7% over the corresponding period of 2021, while the farmed shrimp output reached 234,600 tonnes, up 7.9%.
