Seafood Task Force welcomes new members

Founded in 2014, the Seafood Task Force represents members of global tuna and Thai shrimp supply chains, serving more than 350 million customers across the world.

Seventeen companies from India, Indonesia and Vietnam, including Devi Sea Foods, India’s largest exporter of shrimp, have joined STF’s existing tally of 30.

STF is currently working on a ten-point plan to enhance sustainability. This includes increased accountability, enhanced tuna supply chain oversight, improved worker hiring practices, and a new environmental code for aquaculture currently being trialled in 12 shrimp farms across Thailand.

“Our focus is on fixing: taking concrete steps on the ground which are realistic and achievable,” said STF executive director, Martin Thurley.

“We help retailers, seafood and pet food brands, supply chain partners and NGOs worldwide, all working towards ensuring confidence to trade.

“That goal becomes increasingly achievable as our membership grows.”

All STF members provide an annual self-declaration of their supply chain mapping, risk assessment and traceability work, which allows the STF members to share trends and identify best practices.

STF members include retailers and brands such as Costco, Mars & Co., Nestlé, Smucker’s Company, and Walmart, as well as major tuna and seafood producers, including FCF Co./Bumble Bee, StarKist, Thai Union/Chicken of the Sea, and Tri Marine.
