Seafood lovers around the UK will have the opportunity to get behind the fish counter and practise their filleting skills with a certified Master Fishmonger during this year’s Seafood Week on 4–11 October.

The open day sessions will be held at various independent fishmonger shops across the UK. The initiative is part of a national campaign established to encourage the public to increase their seafood consumption in line with the recommended two portions per week.
Budding professional fishmongers will also have the chance to use the open day to show off their skills and become certified under the Master Fishmonger Standard (MFS). Those deemed worthy of certification will join an elite list of fishmongers to receive their award at a ceremony held at the historic Fishmongers’ Hall in London.
Managed by the Worship Company of Fishmongers, the MFS recognises professional excellence across a range of levels within the seafood industry. The Guild has been helping to uphold standards of fishmongering since 1272.
The schedule of open days is as follows: W Stevenson & Sons, Newlyn (7 October); GCH Fishmongers, Bedford (9 October); Cross of York, York (10 October) and Wellgate Fisheries, Clitheroe (11 October).
