NOAA Fisheries is inviting members of the public to comment on its draft seafood strategy.
The National Seafood Strategy focuses on resilience and NOAA says that it aligns with the Biden-Harris administration’s goals for economic recovery, environmental sustainability, labour needs and increased seafood consumption to help combat hunger and poor nutrition.

A Vision for Resilience
NOAA’s vision is to ensure that:
- US seafood continues to be produced sustainably
- The US seafood sector contributes to the nation’s climate-ready food production and to meeting critical domestic nutritional needs
- US seafood production increases to support jobs, the economy, and the competitiveness of the US seafood sector
- Supply chains and infrastructure are modernised with more value-added activity
- Opportunities are expanded for a diverse and growing seafood workforce
To implement this strategy NOAA will focus on four goals:
- Sustaining or increasing sustainable wild capture production
- Increasing sustainable aquaculture production
- Fostering access to domestic and global markets
- Strengthening the entire US seafood sector
