Cornelis Vrolijk and Krijn Verwijs have formed a new joint-venture partnership through which the two family-owned businesses expect to achieve their respective market growth targets.

The pair have signed a letter of intent, with Ijmuiden-based fishing firm Cornelis Vrolijk taking a participating interest in the seafood and shellfish activities of Yerske-headquartered Krijn Verwijs.

Krijn Verwijs Yerseke’s Director Caroline Verwijs said that with the two businesses joining forces and adding value, the company would improve its regional and international position, and strengthen its product portfolio and innovation pathways.

“We will remain Krijn Verwijs, a family firm dedicated to the shellfish sector and emphasizing the importance of a healthy mussel and oyster sector in the Netherlands.”

The firm will also retain its Premier brand and slogan “Seafarmers by Nature”, under which it sells its products.

Cornelis Vrolijk’s Managing Director Annerieke Vrolijk said, “In Krijn Verwijs, we have found a partner which, like us, places great store by family values such as artisan production, trust, loyalty and sustainable relationships.”
