Seafish has announced that Mel Groundsell has been appointed the organisation’s new corporate relations director.
Ms Groundsell will be based in the Seafish Edinburgh office and will lead the organisation’s work to communicate on behalf of the UK seafood industry and will take responsibility for key aspects of the Seafish Corporate Plan. She has worked in corporate communications for almost 30 years.
Commenting on her appointment, Ms Groundsell said: “I’m delighted to be here at Seafish and to add my weight to the important work we are delivering. There are a number of complex issues ahead and if we are to really live up to our promise as the authority on seafood, we must drive a coherent engagement strategy that can meet the needs of our very broad range of stakeholders and help secure a profitable and sustainable future for the UK seafood industry.”
Marking the appointment, Dr Paul Williams, CEO of Seafish, commented: “Mel’s experience extends across the corporate communications mix and the considerable expertise she brings will add great value to our ongoing work to promote, protect and inform.”
In her new role, Ms Groundsell will be tasked with leading communications on all aspects of the UK fishing industry and is responsible for industry liaison, government relations, stakeholder engagement and consumer campaigns.
