Invergordon RNLI lifeboat was launched on yesterday to go to the aid of a fishing vessel that had broken down at the entrance to the Cromarty Firth.

The 6m fishing vessel Falcon with one person on board had suffered engine failure whilst fishing close to the North Sutor.

The Falcon's skipper had dropped an anchor to stop the boat drifting in the fresh south westerly winds and then informed Aberdeen Coastguard of the situation.

Invergordon RNLI lifeboat crew where paged and the Trent class Lifeboat Douglas Aikman Smith was launched on its first service call of 2011 shortly after 11.30am.

The lifeboat located the Falcon and towed it to the safety of Cromarty Harbour to effect repairs.
