35 Years of Experience in the Seafood Industry
Title(s): Owner, Prime Time Seafood, Inc.
Founding Partner and Owner, Pacifico Aquaculture
Beginning his career working as a marine biologist, and finally now as a founding owner, sales and distribution partner of Pacifico Aquaculture, Rex has been involved many aspects of seafood production from aquaculture, commercial fishing, procurement, distribution, and commercial marine aquaculture. He has worked in the seafood industry on nearly all levels.
Rex was involved in the pioneering of shrimp farming in the 1980’s in the U.S. and Ecuador. In 1989 he started Prime Time Seafood, which specialized in high-grade tuna procurement and marketing in the U.S. and Japan. During his years working with wild-caught seafood it became clear the future supply of seafood will come from sustainable farming of marine species. His experience of 20+ years of marketing seafood, combined with the history in commercial aquaculture came full circle in 2001 and started the process to develop a multi-species open-ocean cage farm in Mexico. Working first with yellowtail and bluefin tuna at Isla Todos Santos, the project has since evolved into Pacifico Aquaculture, which focuses on closed-cycle Striped Bass production.
His career has afforded the opportunity to travel the world as a technician, consultant, but mostly as owner of a seafood company. Rex is especially competent and comfortable in Latin America projects, but has also done business in South Pacific, Europe, Asia, and Africa. By knowing the marketing side of the business as well as the technical and cultural ins and outs of commercial fishing and aquaculture, Rex brings knowledge, contacts, trusted relations, common sense and practical know-how to most any commercial marine venture.
