The UK''s national Fish and Chip Awards 2013, organised by seafood authority Seafish, will be celebrating its 25th anniversary next year.

Fifty fish and chip shops will be competing across ten UK regions including Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Central and South England, to be crowned regional Independent Takeaway of the Year.
The awards, which will end with an evening ceremony at The Lancaster hotel in London on 24 January 2013, recognise the quality, value and choice offered in fish and chip shops around the UK.
Paul Williams, chief executive, Seafish, said: “Every year of this competition we see the standard of shops getting higher and higher and this year is no exception. Seafish has been running the awards for 25 years and the calibre of entries demonstrates the battle for the national title is as fierce as ever."
He added: “The National Fish and Chip Awards have not only improved the standards of the industry and raised awareness of the issues surrounding sustainable fishing practices, but it has also generated additional revenue for the businesses involved and adds to the shop’s cachet.”
Participating shops will be secretly judged by the Seafish panel over the coming few month. The panel will shortlist fifty shops that will then compete for the overall UK title. Shops will be rated based on a number of factors from food quality to customer service.
