French-headquartered retail business, Auchan, has become the latest organisation to join the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI).

Present in 13 countries with nearly 180,000 employees, Auchan has been serving the public for 60 years. The company trades through all formats such as hypermarkets, supermarkets, convenience stores and online.
"We work every day at our level for responsible fishing and aquaculture,” said Matthieu Trenchand, quality manager of Auchan.
“We are constantly updating our sustainable fisheries policy, in response to consumers' concerns about the quality of products and to ensure sound management of the resource, in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals for aquatic life.
“It is through the GSSI programme that we wish to further strengthen our involvement in the conservation and wise management of resources,” he added.
GSSI is a public-private partnership with more than 90 stakeholders, aiming to align global efforts and resources to address seafood sustainability challenges.
