Quality on show for fisheries minister
Visible quality. Icelandic Minister of Fisheries, Ãrni M Mathiesen (right), gets first-hand evidence of the freshness of fish at Fishgate, Hulls quality-driven fish trading centre, during an early morning visit to the electronic auction market.
Fishgate director Magnús Gudmundsson (left) showed the Minister, the Icelandic Ambassador to the UK Forsteinn Pálsson (second right a former Prime Minister and Minister of Fisheries in Iceland), and Ãrmann Ólafsson, assistant to Mr. Mathiesen, the environmentally controlled grading and boxing systems and market hall.
Fishgate chief executive Kristjon D Bergmundsson, who welcomed the party to the computerised auction theatre, said the day’s market had handled around 50 tonnes of Nordic fish from Iceland and a Norway Coast catch landed by the Hull-based trawler Thornella.
