Promens is launching a new Saeplast container that has a volume of 340l but a basal area corresponding to the 460l and 660l containers that were two of the most popular Saeplast containers.

The container‘s R&D work was initiated based on the needs of Sea Harvest, whose fishing activities are devoted to hake, a fish species related to cod and haddock. Hake is a delicate fish requiring careful handling. For this reason, the South African customers requested a container with lower walls. The use of lower containers results in a greater space utilisation in fishing vessel holds.

Hilmar Gudmundsson, sales and marketing manager at Promens Dalvik, has full confidence that this new container will gain great popularity among Promens’ customers. “It appears that in some instances there is a preference for the lower containers because of their appropriate size and lighter weight. We also see a great advantage in the possibility to combine the use of both 340l and 460l containers in vessel holds to maximise space utilisation. By offering a wider range of container sizes, 340-460-660l, we are able to increase the level of service to our customers and the fisheries sector”, says Mr Gudmundsson.

Saevaldur Gunnarsson, sales representative at Promens Dalvik, says that the new Saeplast container with the recently launched safety foot promotes safer stacking. This innovation is well appraised among Promens’ customers using larger containers. The new container is constructed with a triple layer of polyethylene and is therefore recyclable, but also tremendously strong without being too heavy. One of the innovative features involves the design of the base, enabling easy access from all sides for a manual forklift.
