The vessel is being designed and built by Denmark’s Karstensens Skibsværft A/S, for Norwegian owner Polarbris AS.

Brunvoll’s contract comprises an integrated system of propulsion and manoeuvring, with a large-diameter controllable pitch propeller and gearbox with power take-off, tunnel thrusters, and a retractable azimuth combi thruster and control system.

When deciding the system configuration for Polarbris, the owner emphasised the importance of manoeuvrability and efficiency, which resulted in the large diameter cp-propeller and retractable azimuth combi thruster.

“It may not be common to have a retractable azimuth thruster in Danish seiners. However, our very good experience from the retractable azimuth combi thruster in the fore ship of the longliner Atlantic made it important to us to also have this function in Polarbris,” PolarbrisAS Managing Director, Kjell-Gunnar Hoddevik, said.

Hoddevik said the benefits from the retractable azimuth combi thruster include increased efficiency during fishing, and redundancy in emergency situations.

Brunvoll Vice-president Sales, Geir-Arne Kaspersen, highlighted the importance of good cooperation with the shipowner.

“It is a pleasure to work with engaged customers. Based on their knowledge and eagerness to have efficient technical solutions, we have together landed a suitable system configuration for Polarbris,” Kaspersen said.
