Hosting the 12th international lobster conference in 2020 is seen as another win for WA’s fishery

Western Australian Fishing Industry Council (WAFIC) CEO, John Harrison congratulated the Western Rock Lobster Council and the Western Australian Department of Fisheries on winning the bid to host the major international conference which gives recognition to the successful management of its iconic rock lobster fishery.

Held every three to five years, the conference provides an opportunity to highlight WA’s Western Rock Lobster Fishery, which is valued at about A$400 million annually and promises to deliver scientific presentations and discussions featuring hundreds of leading scientists, industry members and experts from about 20 countries.

Kim Colero, Chair of the Western Rock Lobster Council urged the public to think about attending the Perth conference in 2020 for an insight into the industry.

“It is great to get an overview on what is happening with lobster around the world and the information we are getting from our scientists in Western Australia is first class,” he said. “Our industry is spoilt with what we have got in both scientific and management terms and we must ensure this continues. The real advantage we have is our industry has a good dialogue with Government, managers and scientists.”
