OPTIMAR Ice has installed an ice machine on the Sighvatur GK, making it the third for Grindavik-based Visir''s vessels. The latest, a BP-120, has a capacity of 1,000 litres of 40% thick ice per hour and a 2,100 -litre storage tank.

The longlining company bought a BP-120 ice machine with a built in pre-cooler and a 2,100 liters storage tank in early 2004 for its Pall Jónsson GK and it improved quality and fish yield, according to Reynir Gudjonsson, Optimar marketing manager.

The second order, a B-120 with a separate FK-100 at 100 kW pre-cooler and 2,100-litre storage tank has just being fitted on Visir's newest ship the Johanna Gisladottir IS.

Visir hf uses Optimar Ice liquid machines at its processing plant in Husavik and says it may add one at its plant in Thingeyri.

Optimar Ice says it is also developing a compact, smaller and lighter machine to fit in smaller boats with less electricity power.

The company says it already offers a hydraulic version of its BP-105 machine for boats without enough electricity capacity on-board.
