The collaboration between Skipskompetanse, Rostein and Larsnes Mek. Verksted continues with another order for a new 84.2m live fish carrier.

This will be Rostein’s tenth vessel in a row, a sister ship to Ro Vision which was delivered in 2020 as the world’s first hybrid live fish carrier, winning the Ship of the Year award later that year. The new vessel will be rented out to SalMar ASA.

The as yet unnamed vessel will be similar to Ro Vision but has some differences. “For an untrained eye it will probably look like a copy of Ro Vision, but some assignment-specific adjustments have been made internally and Rostein are focused on constant development at all times,” explained Skipskompetanse chief executive, Per Jørgen Silden. “Even though things have worked well on previous vessels, they want the new vessels to keep on improving,” he added.

Chief executive of SalMar Farming, Roger Bekken, said the company was focused on creating jobs and supporting the local community. “With the choice of Rostein as a partner, we know that Norwegian maritime suppliers will have increased activity with this new vessel,” he said, adding that further reducing salmon’s already low carbon footprint was also important. “It was important to us that the sister ship [to Ro Vision] also is equipped as a battery hybrid,” he said.

Owner and chief executive of Rostein, Odd Einar Sandøy, also emphasised the cooperation between the companies adding that all of Rostein’s 16 vessels have been equipped in Norway.
