Dawnfresh axes Uddingston, expands Arbroath
Scottish food producer, Dawnfresh Seafoods is investing £5 million in expanding its Arbroath site in preparation for the closure of its Uddingston site near Glasgow.
The company hopes the investment will increase the volume of seafood processed at Arbroath by 30% over the next five years and add to the 350 different product lines it currently delivers.
The company has begun a consultation with staff at its Uddingston site, encouraging them to move to Arbroath. Currently 230 permanent staff members work at Uddingston with the Arbroath expansion adding 150 to its existing 180 roles. The company is assuring staff that no jobs in Arbroath are under threat.
“For the remainder of this year and until the move next year, our operations at Uddingston will very much continue as normal,” said managing director, Raleigh Salvesen. “It will be sad to close our factory in Uddingston but we are incentivising our team to join us on this journey and hope many of our experienced and skilled staff join us in Arbroath,” he added.
To support employees, Dawnfresh is offering a relocation allowance, access to local area support from Angus Council, and protection of current pay and conditions. It has also pledged to help those who do not wish to move find new jobs in the area as well as finding an alternative use for the site in Uddingston.
