The jury of industry experts has nominated Noras Global of Portugal, Searas of Norway and VAKI which is based in Iceland and is an MSD Animal Health company.

Noras Global has developed U-Safe, a novel lifebuoy which can be thrown into the sea where it automatically activates. It is remotely controlled to quickly reach a person in danger who then holds on to the buoy and is moved to safety. The buoy has two turbine motors and is symmetrical to ensure it works efficiently regardless of how it lands in the sea.

SeaRAS Aquasense is a new method for measuring and monitoring levels of hydrogen sulphide in water and can detect the gas at levels of just 0.05 micrograms per litre. SeaRAS Aquasense is installed in many farms which use recirculating aquaculture systems and also on board wellboats to control the levels of hydrogen sulphide in tanks.

VAKI has developed the SmartFlow system whereby fish density is monitored and controlled automatically to maximise fish welfare and enhance grading, vaccination and counting. The Density Control solution maintains a consistent and pre-set ratio of live fish and water during the fish handling process and the regulator thins out the flow if the volume of fish in the hose exceeds a specified density.

VAKI Density Control can also be combined with the VAKI Automatic Tank Water Level system.
