Thai Union to shift mackerel sourcing in response to Atlantic stock issue

Seafood company Thai Union has announced plans to diversify its mackerel sourcing, taking a direct step to alleviate pressure on the at-risk Northeast Atlantic mackerel stock (Scomber scombrus). Beginning in 2026, the company will shift its focus towards more abundant and sustainable mackerel species, such as Scomber colias, Scomber japonicus or Trachurus murphyi, it advised in a statement.
