One-stop shop for Australian seafood workers
A new training and recruitment website has launched to help support Australia’s seafood sector workers.
Developed by Seafood Industry Australia and the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation the Seafood Careers website is a one-stop shop for the industry, connecting individuals with roles to help safeguard sustainable, long term food security.
“The shortage of capable and experienced people within the seafood industry is an ongoing challenge for many commercial seafood producers,” said Veronica Papacosta, chief executive, Seafood Industry Australia.
“Seafood Careers has been developed as a proactive step to address industry’s ongoing workforce shortages. We want to showcase the amazing opportunities our industry has to offer.”
The Australian government aims to grow the fishing and aquaculture sectors to be worth AUS$6 billion by 2030. At present the industry directly support around 17,000 families across the country.
The new website encourages people to participate in the seafood industry by identifying opportunities to participate, ways to progress careers together with training and mentoring.
Seafood Careers has been developed with funding from the Australian Government Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry and Fisheries Research and Development Corporation.
