Bluefront Equity, a Norway-based seafood investment firm, has announced a strategic investment from Builders Vision to help accelerate sustainability in the global seafood industry.

The investment will support Bluefront’s second fund, Bluefront Capital II, and will help the company transform the supply chain by promoting ocean health, fish welfare and efficient use of resources.

“The world is increasingly recognising that food shortages, pre- and post-harvest losses, unsustainable land-water-energy-use, food waste and climate change are threatening the global food supply chain,” said Simen Landmark, partner and chief investment officer at Bluefront.

“We want to make a positive impact in the seafood value chain, and we are experiencing particularly strong interest from international investors who would like to be part of the solution to these challenges.”

Bluefront’s first fund, Bluefront Capital I, raised US$62 million in 2021, and its second fund has already exceeded this amount in commitments. The firm is continuing to fundraise for Bluefront Capital II, which will remain open until summer 2025.

Builders Vision is an impact platform founded by Lukas Walton in 2021. This undisclosed investment marks the first partnership between the platform and Bluefront, as they work together to establish an Impact Advisory Council to improve Bluefront’s impact management efforts.

“From the moment we met with Builders Vision and learned about their focus on advancing the blue economy and transforming food systems, we saw strong synergies between our goals and approach,” said Kjetil Haga, partner and chief executive at Bluefront.

Bluefront Capital II has already made its first two investments: Cryogenetics, a leader in preserving aquatic genes for aquaculture, and Horizon Software (formerly FiiZK Digital), a company optimising biological conditions for fish farmers through digital solutions.

Notable investors from Bluefront’s first fund, including Norwegian firms and global players like Commonfund, have also committed to Bluefront Capital II.
