EP approves Cape Verde fisheries partnership agreement
MEPs approved a fisheries partnership agreement with Cape Verde by a large majority today (374 to 67). The agreement only concerns tuna fishing, giving fishing rights to French, Portuguese and Spanish vessels.
The report by Duerte Freitas (EPP-ED, PT) on the Fisheries Partnership Agreement with Cape Verde approves the Commission’s proposal.
The agreement is for the next five years, and constitutes a reduction of fishing rights.
The new protocol allows only tuna fishing, and the number of licenses has been cut from 117 to 84 vessels (25 freezer tuna seiners–12 Spain, 13 France–11 pole-and-line tuna vessels–7 Spain, 4 France–and 48 surface longliners–41 Spain, 7 Portugal).
The annual financial contribution of the Community is 385,000 euros.
