UCO and Mowi expand ROV partnership

This collaboration includes a 40% increase in ROV units at Mowi’s farming sites, enhancing operational efficiency and fish welfare.

UCO provides specialised solutions for tasks such as mortality removal, net inspections and stock maintenance.

Under the new agreement, Mowi will expand its ROV fleet to over 25 units, including UCO’s ‘Foover’ mortality removal system, which efficiently handles fish mortalities, especially during environmental challenges like jellyfish and algae blooms.

“Fish welfare is one of the most important concerns in modern aquaculture,” said Jamie Smith, business development manager at UCO.

“By combining our expertise with Mowi’s industry-leading practices, we believe we can develop solutions that set new benchmarks for fish welfare.”

Mowi, the world’s largest salmon farming company, has partnered with UCO since 2018, with the use of ROV system increasing significantly at Mowi sites in the past five years.

The next phase of their partnership will focus on further improving the Foover system, including capabilities for monitoring and removing surface moribund fish.

UCO now employs 16 full-time staff in Scotland, supporting global operations and continuing to advance research and development.
