Plymouth student wins aquaculture award

Naomi Smith from the School of Biological and Marine Sciences was named by Swiss-Dutch health and beaty innovator, dsm-firmenich, as the top student in the MSc Sustainable Aquaculture programme.

The award recognises exceptional commitment and contribution to advancing sustainable aquaculture practices.

“We are committed to leading a global transformation in sustainable animal protein production, providing industry-leading solutions that support farmers in reducing their environmental impact and build truly sustainable aquatic food systems,” said Dr Benedict Standen, head of aquaculture marketing at dsm-firmenich.

Dr Daniel Merrifield at the University of Plymouth highlighted the importance of collaborations with industry. “The support from pioneering companies such as dsm-firmenich helps us deliver important research and innovation-driven educational offerings, supporting our MSc Sustainable Aquaculture students to further develop their technical and scientific knowledge,” he said.
