Industrial Pesquera Santa Priscila is based in Ecuador and will become an equity method affiliate of Mitsui once the deal goes through in March 2024, assuming necessary approvals are granted.

The deal aims to increase productivity and make the business more efficient to better serve customers’ needs, says Mitsui. The partners say they are committed to a high focus on social responsibility, environmental sustainability, product quality and modernisation.

As part of its interest in the shrimp industry, in 2019 Mitsui invested in Minh Phu Seafood in Vietnam, reportedly the world’s largest shrimp processing company.

The trading company has also identified ‘wellness ecosystem creation’ as one of its key strategic initiatives in its medium-term management plan 2026, aiming to add value to its food and nutrition segments.
