Insect protein startup gains investment

S2G Investments and Ocean 14 Capital Fund I have announced a joint investment in Enthos Circular Feed Technologies, a company turning organic waste into insect-based protein and oils.

The funding will support the development of Enthos 1, a flagship facility in Colombia reportedly set to become one of Latin America’s largest centres for upcycling organic waste using black soldier fly larvae.

Enthos’s technology transforms food waste into protein-rich insect meal, oils and organic fertiliser, offering a scalable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional animal and aquaculture feed sources.

“Turning organic waste into high-value protein and oils has the triple benefit of sustainably feeding more people, reducing ever-growing organic waste volumes and lowering methane emissions from landfills,” said Andreas Grimminger, chief executive and co-founder of Enthos.

As global food insecurity intensifies and over US$1 trillion in food is wasted annually, insect-based feed is emerging as a promising solution and the market is expected to quadruple by 2032. Just 1% of diverted global food waste could yield over 330,000 metric tonnes of insect protein each year.

“Insect meal produced by Enthos is a key alternative to fishmeal used in aquaculture,” said Piers Lakin, principal at Ocean 14 Capital. “Its reliability and lower environmental impact make it an essential part of the future protein mix.”

Larsen Mettler, managing director at S2G, added, “Enthos stood out to us for its ability to turn waste into a high-value asset that fits seamlessly into global food and feed markets.”
