BioMar acquires full ownership of LetSea
BioMar has confirmed it will acquire the remaining shares of Norwegian aquaculture research centure, LetSea, from KapNor.
BioMar currently owns 34% of the shares in LetSea. The acquisition will grant BioMar full ownership, boosting its capacity for innovation.
“This acquisition creates a unique position for BioMar as we secure access to further R&D capacity in Norway,” explained BioMar Group’s chief executive, Carlos Diaz.
“At the same time, we will welcome a team of very competent research staff into our organisation, with an already established collaboration.”
Having collaborated with LetSea for years on research, BioMar’s full ownership of the centre will support exploration in areas such as waterborne feeding, new feed ingredients and health and welfare.
“LetSea’s unique facilities and expertise complement our existing research efforts, enhancing our ability to innovate and test new solutions under real-life seawater conditions,” said Simon Wadsworth, global R&D director at BioMar.
Founded in 1996, LetSea offers facilities for controlled trials, ranging from 5m by 5m tanks to full-scale sea cages. Its location on the Helgeland coast in Dønna provides an optimal environment for evaluating feed and technology throughout the entire aquaculture production cycle.
The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2025, subject to regulatory approval.
