Mexican tuna company, Procesa, has ordered a tuna vessel from Galician shipbuilder Hijos de J. Barreras, S.A.

The vessel will be designed by the shipyard and will be delivered in approximately 18 months.

The design of the vessel is a HJB -1600, with a length of 79.5m, 14m beam, and a freezing capacity of up to 1,600 cubic metres.

Procesa is one of the largest tuna processing and distribution companies in Mexico. Since 2005 it has marketed its products under the brand Marina Blue and is present in Europe, Asia, South America and the United States. The company maintains its own fisheries in Mexican waters.

Astillero Barreras has the highest production capacity in Spain. It was founded in 1892 and was the first shipbuilder group specialised in fishing vessels.
