Although the main business of Vónin Ltd. is trawl, the company sees the importance in providing vessels with products that increase efficiency and safety onboard vessels.
The new line thrower L-75 is produced by Line Thrower sp/f based in Klaksvík, Faroe Islands. The person behind the design is 35 year old Andras Samson from Klaksvík. As a fisherman for several years, Andras saw the need for finding a tool that could simplify the task of getting the lines across to other vessels, safely, quickly and efficiently. At first, the line thrower was aimed at the pair trawling industry. However, inquiries indicate that supply vessels and ferries also see this product as the solution to simplify the 'line throwing' task.
As the line thrower L-75 operates with an air pressure of 10 bars, it makes it safe to handle. The L-75 can throw up to 100 metres and is the first of its kind where the user is able to regulate the shot distance with the trigger. The line thrower consists of plastic and stainless steel, which makes the product perfect in the rough sea environment.
The first line throwers were sold to the pair trawling vessels “Navarin” and “Borgarin” from Klaksvík. According to the skipper, the Line Thrower L-75 has been a great success, both in terms of the time getting the line across to the other vessel and the fact that they do not need to get close to each other to get the line across. The skipper also highlighted that being able to avoid close operation with another vessel at sea will reduce the risk of vessels bumping into each other and will save the company time and costs in terms of repairing damage on vessels.
The Line Thrower L-75 is EN-certificated by the Faroese Occupational, Safety and Health Administration.
