Icom has recently launched the new IC-M35 buoyant VHF marine handheld transceiver.

The IC-M35 is the latest in Icom’s line-up of rugged marine handhelds and comes with Clear Audio Boost as a new feature.
Clear Audio Boost means that the radio is able to adjust its own volume level to account for the surrounding noise level. It measures the ambient sound pressure level so that the user does not miss communication during a sudden burst of noise.
The IC-M35 automatically adjusts the transmit level as well, meaning that the conversation is sent and received as clearly as possible no matter how noisy the background is. For manual override, a 'loud' button can be activated with just one push, giving immediate full volume level. In addition, the IC-M35 has a noise-cancelling microphone built in.
The IC-M35 has also been designed to float in the water. If the IC-M35 is dropped over the side of the boat it will rise to the surface and because the ICM35 is waterproof to IPX-7, it will keep on working after it has been submerged.
For users who want hands-free use a new waterproof speaker microphone is available, which when attached will still allow the ICM35 to float.
The IC-M35 uses a lightweight Lithium-Ion battery giving a full eight hours of use on a single charge (typical usage: 5% transmit/5% receive/90% standby.)
