ORBIMAGE has released version 6.0 of its software for its SeaStar Fisheries Information Service. It has its own satellite (OrbView-2), and the company says Captains can view the oceanographic maps created by its staff by installing the OrbMapâ„¢ software on a vessels PC. It says the new version allows a skipper to highlight the best fishing grounds based on his own input. They say it is easy to learn and also offers high resolution coastlines and digital bathymetry in all maps, basic navigation functionality (waypoints and range/bearing tools taken from the vessel GPS position), order scheduler to select the products and delivery day for automatic hands-free product delivery, all available data in SeaStar products can be viewed at the cursor position at the same time - even when the images are not opened.
It also offers 'thermocline' depth data - view an image and see the depth where the temperature of the water column changes the fastest - this is the boundary between the surface mixed layer and the deeper cool waters, the company said.
