Marine Harvest Chile has closed one of its three processing plats (Chinquihue) in Puerto Montt.
The company says that the reason for the closing is due to the ISA outbreak which has led to a reduction on harvesting volumes.
The closing will affect about 600 employees at this stage. The closing is part of a larger restructuring of the Chilean organisation which will continue in the coming months. The company says that the restructuring is necessary to ensure the short term viability and the long term development of the aquaculture industry in Chile, where Marine Harvest will play an important role.
