The Crown Estate has issued a final call for entries and nominations from those who wish to participate in the 2013 Scottish Marine Aquaculture Awards.

The Awards will take place in Edinburgh on 13 June, and all entries must be received by midday on 11 March.

This year there is emphasis on the role of the farm manager and the role producers play in their local communities, and an Outstanding Contribution Award will recognise those who play a key role in the industry but are not necessarily in the public eye. There will also be a Seafood Product Awardwhich will showcase work to increase the visibility of farmed seafood products.

Alex Adrian, aquaculture operations manager, The Crown Estate said, “We have brought a fresh focus to some of the award categories. For example, the Community Initiative Award will honour the producer who best demonstrates a productive engagement with their local communities, responding to their interests. This is particularly important for those based in remote coastal areas.”

The awards are open to those involved in the Scottish marine aquaculture industry that employ the highest standards of aquaculture husbandry; supply Scottish marine aquaculture products to local, national and international markets; farm with a high level of environment awareness; and deliver a high-quality product.
