Israel land-based shrimp farming company ECOshrimp has completed and stocked its first commercial prototype tank.

The 8-metre-diameter, 100-cubic-metre recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) tank is equipped with filtration and life-supporting units. It is specifically designed for growing shrimp at high densities, with a production capacity of over 15kg/m3 before harvest.
ECOshrimp attributes this performance to the incorporation of a proprietary shelving system, enhancing tank surface area and employing other innovative mechanisms to efficiently maintain the shrimp.
“The completion and stocking of our industrialised model mark a significant milestone for ECOshrimp,” said Dr Eran Hadas, CTO at ECOshrimp. “This achievement not only showcases our dedication to pushing the boundaries of technology in shrimp farming but also positions us for the next crucial step of constructing a full-scale commercial shrimp RAS.”
ECOshrimp said the successful operation of the industrialised model will serve as a proof of concept, and will provide valuable insights for the company’s progression towards an end-to-end solution that includes its own feeding formula and well-tested grow-out protocols, the monitoring and biomass assessment capabilities and know-how achieved in the design of a water treatment solution tailored for the specific needs of shrimp.
