John West has announced the expansion of its unique ‘Can Tracker’ application to include its range of tinned salmon, mackerel and sardines, as well as tuna.
The company says that having 100% transparency across the four core species emphasises John West’s continued commitment to prioritising traceability as part of a more sustainable future in fishing.
The Can Tracker application, launched in 2011, enables John West customers to trace their fish to the ocean where it was caught and even down to the boat that made the catch.
Paul Reenan, managing director, John West, said “The ‘Can Tracker’ was a UK first and its expansion to include all of our core products is yet another big step forward for us. Tracing the source of the fish we sell not only provides industry transparency but also increases consumer awareness and consciousness of the story behind every can.”
John West continues to work closely with its suppliers, regional governments, the European Union, scientists and NGOs to maintain, improve and update the environmental aspects of its food supply chain, including conservation and fish stocks.
